ID Protection, sometimes also called WHOIS or Privacy Protection, is a service that conceals the authentic contact information of domain registrants on WHOIS lookup sites. Without such protection, the personal name, home address and email of any domain registrant will be publicly available. Supplying false details during the registration procedure or altering the authentic info afterwards will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the domain name registrant losing his/her domain ownership rights. The policies adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), demand that the WHOIS information must be correct and up to date at all times. The ID Protection service was introduced by registrar companies as an answer to the growing concerns about possible identity fraud. If the protection service is enabled, the domain registrar’s contact info will be shown instead of the domain registrant’s upon a WHOIS check. Most domain names support the ID Protection service, even though there are certain country-code ones that don’t.

ID Protection in Shared Web Hosting

If you order a shared web hosting plan from us, you’ll be able to activate ID Protection for any of your domain names in case their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain and add ID Protection upon registration or you can enable the service for any of your domains at any time later via the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The process is really easy – after you log in, you’ll need to visit the Registered Domains section where you will see a list of all the domain names that you have registered with our company. For each of them you will see an “ID Protect” sign, which will inform you whether the service is active or not. By clicking it, you can either ID-protect the domain, or you can turn off the service if it is currently activated.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you want to conceal the contact details for your domain name and you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you’ll be able to add our ID Protection service either upon signup or at any moment later through your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is optional and can be added with several clicks of the mouse from the Control Panel’s Registered Domains section where all the domains that you have registered through us will be listed alphabetically. You can activate ID Protection for any of the extensions that support this service by simply clicking the “ID Protect” sign to the right of each domain. In the very same way, you can also renew the service or deactivate it – in case you would like to transfer a domain to a different registrar company and you need the actual email account associated with the domain to be visible.
